History of the organization:

The Center for Democratic Reforms and Media, a non-governmental organization (hereinafter referred to as the C-DReam), was established in 2015 to promote media literacy, civic and digital education, and democratic values ​​among young people and educational institutions. The C-DReam expert team is among the most active in Ukraine, participating in the development and promotion of youth projects, providing advice in the field of media, and introducing educational innovations.

In 2015-2017, the organization’s activities focused on law-making activities. In particular, the organization’s experts participated in the development of the draft Law of Ukraine On Whistleblower Protection and Disclosure of Information About Harm and Threat to the Public Interest, draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine On Amendments to para. 8 of theMethods of Calculating the License Fee for the Issuance or Extension of Broadcasting Licenses, Software Service Provider Licenses, Determining the Amount of the Fee for Renewal of the License and Issuance of a Duplicate Broadcasting License, Software Service Provider License Calculation Methodology, draft Law On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Introduction of Community Broadcasting on the principles of public broadcasting.

In 2018, Media Teenz, a two-week summer school on the basics of creating media content for the youth of Kyiv, became a pilot project of the C-DReam. 40 participants aged 12-18 joined the study program, which included training and lectures, study tours and practical tasks for school editors. Participants gained comprehensive knowledge of fact-checking and the basics of journalism.

The main project of the public organization in 2018-2019 is Kyiv Youth MediaLab – a six-month program for the development of media literacy for journalism clubs of secondary schools №281 of Sviatoshynskyi district of Kyiv and №296 of Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. The training program was designed so that participants not only gained theoretical knowledge, but also learned to work with archival photos and videos.

In 2019, more than 60 hours of media literacy lectures were held for students and seniors.

In 2019-2021 Kyiv Youth MediaLab was transformed into a Youth MediaLab (yml.com.ua), a national program aimed at the development of school and youth media. The website hosts the all-Ukrainian web source, which serves as a platform for training courses, webinars and competitions, creating educational manuals, unique video content and online applications. The project was implemented by the Communications for Change NGO, along with the C-DReam experts. C-DReam experts provided strategic and consulting support for the inclusion of the media component in the educational content. C-DReam supported media teams that received technical support from the Youth MediaLab project.

In March-April 2021, a training and practical school “Laboratory for the creation of modern educational and online content on social unity” (Modelab) for the United Nations Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme (http://ndo.lg.ua/news/691-zavershylasya-laboratoriya-modelab.html) was held.

Experts of the public organization also participated in the development of communication campaigns on European integration, gender equality, tolerance and inclusion for the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine. The initiatives of the public organization were implemented in partnership with public authorities: Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Government Commissioner for Gender Equality Policy, State Agency for Tourism Development, IA Ukrinform; NGOs: Communications for Change, La Strada-Ukraine, Effective Communications, Institute of Mass Information, Ukrainian Association of Media Psychologists and Media Educators, Academy of Digital Development; and Google Ukraine, a socially responsible business. Experts of the public organization have experience in cooperating with international organizations – Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, UNDP, UN Population Fund, UN Women, OSCE, EU Project Association4U, USAID.
